EG And Secret Eliminated From Manila Major
The first day of the Manila Major main stage brought an end to four teams including the big name rivals Evil Geniuses and Team Secret. VGR and Team Empire knocked out the two teams respectively and the organizations go home much earlier than expected and the players are nothing short of disappointed.
On the other side of the lower bracket Complexity and Alliance keep their dreams alive and make it past the last Bo1’s in the tournament by beating out one of the favorites to win the major Wings, and the hometown Mineski respectively. Complexity will face Team Liquid who lost 2-0 to an MVP Phoenix team who showed some of the best teamwork and cohesion I have seen for quite some time. Alliance will face NàVi in an old “el classico” rematch that will surely be a series to watch.

Overwatch vs. CS:GO: Surpassing The FPS Viewing Benchmark
Overwatch is fast. Think about it — when do you actually stop moving? Perhaps if you’re a Bastion set up in defense or a Widowmaker holding an angle, but both of these heroes will get shut down quickly if they stay in the same position for too long. The tooltips say so, so it must be true, right? No inaccuracy penalty for running or jumping means characters are rarely on the ground, let alone in the same position for any period of time. The potential for action is unbelievable.
Tracer zips forward to stick a pulse bomb to her foe before traveling back along the timeline to get out of harm’s way. Genji double-jumps to a vantage point and throws shurikens at the unsuspecting below before cleaving through them with a dash. Junkrat propels himself into the air with a mine explosion while raining mayhem from above. Roadhog hooks a Mercy to see her wings crumple within his shrapnel embrace. This and more can all be happening at once.

Russia Will Soon Recognize eSports As A Sport
That’s right. A country that outlawed homosexuality in 2013 is now more progressive in the eSports movement than we are. Well, that’s not exactly true as certain organizations have made a push for eSports to be recognized as a tier one sport in South Africa, albeit for all the wrong reasons. But that’s neither here nor there, and this announcement by the Russian government will come into affect on June 17th.
Russia is actually extremely progressive in competitive gaming. Back in 2001, before it was known as eSports, competitive gaming was recognized alongside sports, but this was retracted in 2006 due to not meeting the minimum requirements, according to GosuGamers. 10 Years later eSports will once again be officially recognized as a sport, and placed on the “official register of sports” as of June 17th.

Exclusive: The Truth About E League Viewership
We’ve now completed Week 2 in Turner’s grand experiment into eSports. Immediately after launch there were the standard, un-investigated headlines like “E League Debut Should Have Other Professional Sports Concerned”. As expected the headlines don’t come close to telling the full story. If that works for you, stop now. If you don’t mind numbers and want a peek behind the curtain, keep reading.
I believe that there are 3 questions that E League is hoping to answer:
- Can a large media company unexperienced in eSports put on authentic programming?
- Can eSports transition and compete on TV?
- Can bringing traditional sports production to eSports increase viewership?
