TI7 Main qualifiers update
With only six direct invites for this year’s International, teams across the world are vying for spots in the bloodfest that is known as the regional qualifiers.
Some teams have already went through the eye of the needle to grab a spot in Dota’s most premier competition, but some of the qualifiers are not yet done. So here’s our chance for an update!
In the Southeast Asia qualifiers, TNC Gaming ran rampant and won eight of nine games to grab the outright spot in TI7.
The other two spots allotted for SEA teams were grabbed by Fnatic and Execration, but not before beating Mineski and Clutch Gamers in a double elimination playoff.
Fnatic actually defeated Execration in the first round of the upper bracket then swept Clutch Gamers to get the second TI spot. Execration then pulled off a series of comeback wins in its series against Mineski and then Clutch Gamers to get the third spot.
In South American, Team Infamous survived a shaky start in the preliminaries then swept all their matches in the playoff to grab the lone spot allotted for the southern peninsula.
The Fist finished the prelims third in the table with a 7-2 standing but demolished SG E-sports 2-0 in the upper-bracket semis, then downed top-seed Midas 2-0 in the finals before thrashing SG again 3-0 in the grand-finals.
In the North American Scene, Team NP sealed the first slot after finishing 8-1 in the standings and beating Team Freedom in the tie-breaker.
Digital Chaos, backed by the 10k-MMR midlaner Abed, secured the second NA spot after dominating Freedom 3-0 in the lower bracket finals.
Team Secret grabbed the first qualifying spot in Europe, finishing top of the preliminaries after winning eight of nine games.
Planet Dog, which picked up the roster of Prodota Gaming, grabbed the second spot after it outclassed mousesports 3-1 in the grand finals of the playoffs.
In CIS, Team Empire grabbed the only TI berth after sweeping Team Spirit 3-0 in the grand finals of their playoffs. Empire, Vega Squadron, M19 and Spirit all finished 7-2 in the preliminaries, but it was Empire who escaped the playoffs unscathed.
As of writing, two out of three spots given to China have been grabbed by iG.Vitality and LGD.Forever Young. LGD and Vici Gaming are set to fight to see who will face EHOME.Keen for the third China slot.
